eSUN collaborates with Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology to develop Polylactic Acid Parallel Composite Fiber

2024-01-23

On January 19, 2024, eSUN officially signed a cooperation agreement with Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology regarding the "Polylactic Acid Parallel Composite Fiber Collaboration Project."

The signing ceremony

Polylactic Acid (PLA) is produced from renewable plant resources through biotechnological processes. Products made from this material can be degraded into water and carbon dioxide under composting conditions when discarded. Therefore, PLA is internationally recognized as a green and low-carbon material. Its applications are extensive, ranging from plastic processing to fiber manufacturing, making it an integrated material for both plastics and fibers. As a low-carbon and environmentally friendly material, PLA holds significant development prospects against the backdrop of global carbon reduction efforts.

Polylactic Acid (PLA) fibers combine the advantages of natural fibers and chemically synthesized fibers. They possess a mild acidity similar to human skin, skin-friendly, antibacterial, mite resistance, and non-allergenic. PLA fibers also exhibit excellent drapability, smoothness, breathability, and a glossy appearance. Additionally, textile products made from PLA fibers have the characteristic of self-extinguishing, enhancing safety in use.

Polylactic Acid (PLA) can be processed into yarn, staple, non-woven fabrics, etc. It finds wide applications in industries such as toys and home textiles for filling, clothing fabrics, sanitary materials, and medical supplies.

In this collaboration between eSUN and Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, the project will be based at EsunFiber (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (formerly HI-TECH CHANGJIANG PLA CO.,LTD.). The focus will be on the in-depth exploration of the production and applications of three-dimensional crimped fibers made from polylactic acid. These crimped fibers exhibit a fluffy and elastic nature, excellent moisture absorption, and breathability, making them suitable for various applications, particularly in areas such as filling and thermal insulation fibers.

Imagine products made from polylactic acid fibers, such as environmentally friendly plush stuffed toys, antibacterial and mite-resistant, non-allergenic, skin-friendly, fluffy, and warm quilts. What kind of experience would these bring to us?

About Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology

Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology is a fashion-focused university with a rich sense of patriotism and distinctive educational characteristics. The university originated as the Beijing Textile Engineering Institute, established in February 1959. In July 1961, it was renamed the Beijing Chemical Fiber Engineering Institute, and in February 1987, it underwent expansion and transformation to become the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, making it the first public institution for fashion education in China. In 1998, the university came under the administration of Beijing municipality, and in 2019, it transitioned from a textile and clothing engineering institution to an art school. In 2020, it was officially designated as a high-level characteristic university in Beijing.

The institute adheres to the motto "Walking Hand in Hand with Beauty." Centered around clothing and apparel, with design studies as its core, the institution has developed unique strengths in theoretical research and practical applications in areas such as clothing and apparel culture, the inheritance and innovative design of clothing and apparel, new materials and high-performance clothing, and product and digital media design. Gradually, the university has formed a distinctive educational characteristic of "Emphasizing Art, Leading in Clothing, Integrating Art and Technology." It has established a fashion education philosophy that focuses on the new era, highlighting the beauty of China, and is committed to the development consensus of "striving for the people's better life."

About eSUN

eSUN is primarily focused on the synthesis, modification, application, and recycling of bio-materials. We adhere to the business philosophy of "Differentiated Positioning, Open Innovation," actively promoting technological innovation, product innovation, and application innovation. Centered around biodegradable materials such as polylactic acid and poly-caprolactone, eSUN has gradually developed an industrial layout with a primary focus on five main applications: biomaterials, 3D printing, ecological fibers, eco-friendly packaging, and eco solvents.

Through horizontal expansion and vertical extension, eSUN has established our own technological, production, and marketing network layout in the green closed-loop industry chain of polylactic acid. eSUN has applied for over 100 patents throughout the entire industry chain, with more than 60 granted (primarily invention patents).
